Fund drive raises 43 million FCFA for market fire victims

A little over a week after the February 2024 fire, a fund-raising project initiated by private individuals, senators and ministers had collected 43 million FCFA in support of the affected shop owners. More than 300 shops were destroyed in the fire and authorities were still assessing the full damage when the first funds were announced. The money was intended to help traders restock and reopen while longer-term reconstruction was being discussed. Reported by Journal du Cameroun, March 2024.
